MEETING DATE –19 FEBRUARY
SPEAKER – VICCI McCANN
Vicci is the Lead Archivist at Lancashire Archives and gave a most interesting talk on the work and items in the Collection held in Preston.
The topics held in the Archives cover a wide list of subjects including education, community, public records, cultural not to mention the library and covers over 900 years of Lancashire history!
We were told some fascinating stories of people and places in and around Lancashire area which includes a vast variety of landscapes. Some stories were sad for families and workers, while others were amusing and quite a shock to hear.
Work from the Textile Industry and Horrocks Cotton was explained in detail. Pictures of mills and workers, design and fashions were most interesting as many fashions could still be worn today.
We were shown pattern books and the history behind shipping cotton goods as far away as India.
Vicci invited us to visit Preston Archives to see one of the many Exhibitions held, along with records and research opportunities available which are well worth a visit.
We hope to take up the offer in the near future.
