Haydock Lodge – St Helens Family History Society

On 16th October, Pauline Hurst from the St Helens Family History Society provided an insight into the working and history of Haydock Lodge. The lodge had once belonged to a privately owned, and then modified into a mental institution where patients came from all over the country to live.
Conditions were poor, many people did not survive and the owners became rich on the fees paid for the privilege. In the 1840’s official reports uncovered these facts and things changed when new management took over.
The presentation was well researched and showed us photographs, plans and registers of the people who lived there over many years.
