William Hesketh Lever, the first Lord Leverhulme is known for his creation of the beautiful village of Port Sunlight. In 1918 he bought the islands of Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides. This illustrated lecture follows the changing fortunes of his ownership of these remote islands and his largely unsuccessful efforts to re-organise their occupants and economy.
