Rev Sylvia Jacquest: Memories of old Aughton and Arcana Objecta Cognosite

 

 

The paper ‘Memories of Old Aughton’ was written by Miss Marjorie Holmes in 1978 and was read by Reverend Sylvia Jacquest The article was an extract from a talk given by Miss Holmes in 1978 to St Michaels Fellowship.  She recalled how her family had moved from Liverpool in 1907 to take up residence in Granville Park and described the shops services railways employees and other notable personalities and in particular her parents insistence that she should only use Mr Bradley’s taxi service and copared life in 1907 to that in 1978

 

This was followed by a competition to recognise and identify the use of 20 objects of an antique agricultural domestic and Industrial nature the best score was 5 out of 20 which was not good but the controversy and amusement was much enjoyed. The winner being Mr Bob Ingham.
