Records Office Preston

Records Office visit on 14 May 2014.

Twelve members travelled by car to the Lancashire Archives Office in Preston.  Archivist, Kathryn Newman was our hostess for the evening and had displayed items concerning Ormskirk and its surrounds which she felt would be of interest to us.

We were privileged to see letters from King Edward VI to Edward, Earl of Derby, that had a full ‘Great Seal’ which was incredible – even though a little mouse had nibbled round the edge!!!

We also had a tour of the temperature and humidity controlled document storage area.  Kathryn explained everything so clearly, she was an absolute joy to be with.

Everyone enjoyed the evening and was full of enthusiasm to return and do their own research at a later date!!
