Art Deco in the Twentieth Century

 

On the 5th February, Keith Hick explained the origin of the Art Deco movement and its evolution to probably the major influence in design in modern times.
From its beginning routed in the Arts and Craft era via the work of Macintosh and the free thinkers of the movement to the new wave of designers looking with new positive approach to the design of not only art but also industrial design.
Keith led his audience on a whistle stop tour providing evidence of the influence of this design movement on every aspect of post WW1 life. This included the design and mass production of the motor car, pottery and stone ware, furniture and virtually all aspects of life in the ‘modern home’
Art Décor was described as a lot more than a Quirky Design Episode it was cited as the major driver for the development of transport and infrastructure to support a new life style for the population of the modern world.
